EQUALITY AND SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS POLICIES

St Mary’s is committed to ensuring that all aspects of life within its realm are accessible to all pupils, staff and parents. To that end the school has an Accessibility Plan which outlines the actions agreed by the governing body to ensure that this is the case.

St Mary’s also supports its duty to promote and implement equality for all members of the community it serves. The school’s Equality Policy reflects the school’s aims and principles for attaining equality and outlines its responsibilities. An Equality Plan has been developed to ensure that equality issues in the school are monitored and addressed if need be. The plan is reviewed and updated annually.

St Mary’s is an educationally inclusive school where the teaching and learning, achievements, attitudes and well being of every pupil matter. The school provides an inclusive curriculum, which is designed to meet the needs of all its pupils including those with disabilities, those with special educational needs, those from all cultural backgrounds and pupils with English as an additional language.

The school’s SEN and Inclusion Policy states the aims of the teaching in St Mary’s to provide an education for all children in its care. It outlines the measures taken to identify those requiring extra support and the strategies/interventions that are employed. The school also recognises that children with exceptional abilities have special educational needs too. The school’s policy for Very Able and Gifted Children indicates how the needs of such children are met.
